I've had some sort of respiratory infection for the last 5 days - it started with a slightly sore throat a couple of weeks ago. Over the weekend the "slightly sore" throat (it was sore in the morning and at night, and I likely ignored it during the day) turned into "my lungs feel like they are on fire" during physical exertion (I was installing sod in my yard); it was difficult to swallow and hard to breathe. I have a slight non-productive cough, a suddenly raspy voice, and have been having occasional nosebleeds (once while crying, once in the middle of the night, and once after coughing). Finally - and the condition I'm most affected by now - I feel like my ears are turning into pressure cookers. My throat still hurts but it's manageable without physical exertion, and I trust that the voice will return and the cough will disappear. I haven't had any illness affect my ears since I was a child, though, and am concerned that my illness is more significant than I thought. I just changed my insurance and haven't yet identified a primary doctor that's in my network, meaning that I likely won't be able to secure a "new patient" appointment immediately. The copay to go to Urgent Care is $100, vs $10 to go to a Primary Doc. Based on the symptoms I've described, and understanding that I have a pretty high pain/discomfort threshold, should I go to Urgent Care if I'm not able to get in with a primary doc tomorrow?
