I've Seen Varying Answers And Opinions On This Question...can HSV1

I've seen varying answers and opinions on this question...can HSV1 be passed through saliva during a handjob? Some sites have said no that it can't because there is no direct contact, others say HSV1 can live for 10sec+ outside the body and enter via the generals.
