Last Night My Fingers And Part Of My Palms Turned

Last night my fingers and part of my palms turned purple. I wasn't cold, they weren't numb or tingling. Tonight my forearms on both arms started turning blotches of purple as well.. Both times i went and washed them with soap and water and the purplish color went away, but eventually it came back. What would cause this?
