Liver disease is an umbrella term that includes hepatobiliary disease. Hepatobiliary disease involves, liver and bile duct. Obstruction of bile ducts is caused by gallstones, tumors, cysts, and inflammation. Cholidocholithiosis is the presence of a gallstone in the common bile duct.
Lab tests shows elevated ALP, elevated GGT. Other liver panel enzymes slightly increased.
Would someone with Cholidocholithiosis have and elevated ammonia level?
My understanding is that gallstone is an obstruction, no hepatocellular damage, and liver function is working properly, so why are the other enzymes slightly elevated?
And if the liver is functioning properly, is the classification of liver disease as the umbrella term even accurate (word usage)?
