MY 14 Year Old Son Punctured His Thigh On Dec

MY 14 year old son punctured his thigh on Dec 28. He was bleeding a lot I put pressure on it & my sister called 911. He was taken to the local hospital where they put in 5 stitches. On the 29th he was in some pain, but did not get out of bed very often. On the 30th his thigh was swollen, he had a low fever (100) & was in severe pain when he tried to stand up. I took him to our family Dr who sent us back to the ER. They ran a soft tissue scan 2 regular & 1 with dye. They prescribed hydrocodone -acetaminophen 5-325 tab / instructions take every 4 to 6 hours as needed Qty 15. & sent us home. His thigh is still swollen & he has severe pain when he puts any weight on it. I have been putting ice on it for 20 min. every couple of hours. Is there something else we should be doing?- I can't go back to ER or Dr because my ins. changed on the first & I won't get my new card until Jan.4
