My 12 Year Old Daughter Has This Thing About Choking

My 12 year old daughter has this thing about choking herself. I found belts, cut cords and even modified jump ropes hidden in her room tied into slip loops. I realized what was going on when she came down stairs one day wearing a turtleneck, when I started to tease her and massage her shoulders I noticed a red ring around her neck. Is this normal?
