My 13 Year Old Son, Was In Martial Arts Class

My 13 year old son, was in martial arts class and was thrown into a pole it hit his mid to upper shoulder back area. He is complaining of pain when he exhales, or speaks. My question is as there is no discoloration,or swelling, could he just be bruised or does he have a lung injury?
