My 18 Year Old Son Is Away At College. He

My 18 year old son is away at college. He has had fever today and yesterday. Up to 104 degrees fehrenheit at it's highest. He has been running between 102 and 103 with it breaking when he takes 2x200mg ibuprofen. But now the ibuprofen is upsetting his stomach. Other symptoms are achy legs and tiredness. He called the nurse at University health clinic and she said that ibuprofen/ tylenol alternating and taking clear liquids is about all he can do. She said he doesn't need to come in unless he gets a sore throat. Is this a general influenza that is going around this year? He had a similar thing last year and his doctor here did all kinds of tests and found nothing but had given him an antibiotic as a precaution. It lasted five days last year and it finally went away. Symptoms seem similar this year. Is this a common virus going around? We live in Illinois. Should he go to the health center and ask for tamaflu? or is the ibuprofen and tylenol and drinking clear liquids all he can do until it runs its course?
