My 26 Year Old Daughter Has Sickle Cell Strait And

My 26 year old daughter has sickle cell strait and experiences achy joints, fatigue and swelling. Is there a any tests she can take that will offer some insight on how to care for herself? I'm asking because we've been told that individuals with the strait shouldn't experience any symptoms. Her 10 month old son has the strait too.
