My 27 year old son was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy at age 14. He is currently 27 and has recently become symptomatic with the following: mild black-outs (regains consciousness quickly, weakness, blue lips, rapid weight loss and loss of appetite. He is also a student without medical insurance. His pediatric cardiologist advised, at the time of his diagnosis that he would most assuredly at some point in his life undergo surgery to cut away the excess tissue that is narrowing his left ventricle. He was insured by my Blue Cross until he no longer qualified. First, the urgency is that he is having so many symptoms and what to do, Second, would he possibly be a candidate for a teaching hospital that would treat him at a portion of the cost? Thank you in advance for your expert opinion and any advice you may give us.
Sincerely,
Pamela Hodge
