My 4 Year Old Son Hit Himself In The Chin

My 4 year old son hit himself in the chin with a 6 pound bowling ball. We didn't notice it happen because the ball rolled down the lane at his normal slow speed. He cried for a minute or two and his chin was a little red but no swelling. About 30 min later he complained his cheek and ear hurt. 5 minutes later he started crying and said it hurt worse. Does this sound more like an ear infection or can he have possibly broken his jaw?
