My 6 Mo Grandchild Has A Uti, Ultrasound Shows Inflammation

My 6 mo grandchild has a uti, ultrasound shows inflammation on kidney. He has a low grade fever & IV antibiotics. I'm told he is playing , eating just fine but will be in hospital for the week.
Is that a cause for any long term or serious problems as he grows?
Also , what would cause an infant male to get a UTI?
