My 7 Year Old Child Has Infected Tonsils Since About

My 7 year old child has infected tonsils since about 5 days. We visited a doctor 4 days ago and there were no signs of bacterial infection. Now the tonsils are full of pus and our son has difficulties to breath at night. We just gave him 2 tablets of Children's Claritin Chewable (loratadine). Will this help to reduce the swelling so that we can wait to see a doctor tomorrow morning? Please advise!
