My 81 Year Old Boyfriend Was Diagnosed With Blastomycosis Recently.

My 81 year old boyfriend was diagnosed with Blastomycosis recently. His Infectious Disease Physician prescribed Sporanox which was too harsh for him to take. My question is the disease contagious? His blood test results were positive for Blasto. Nobody can figure out how he contracted it. He spent a few days in the hospital following a cardiac test for blockage which there wasn't any to speak of. A month later he was back in the hospital with a staph infection of the lungs. That was followed by a 2 week stint in rehab to get his strength back. He suffers from COPD and is on Oxygen as needed. Can you help or should I wait until we see the ID Doctor on Tuesday?
