My Friend Thinks He Has Special Powers. He Has Told

My Friend thinks he has special powers. He has told me and my friend about them and we're really concerned. He has also told us the his mom gets mean when she is drunk and said "Which is basically everynight." We don't know if the belief in his "powers" is some way to cope with his mom or if it's some kind of illness. We looked into illness stymptoms like schizophrenia and that is the one he most resembles but not really close to it at all. We don't know if there is some other illness that could cause him to think he has powers or if its just something he uses to cope.
