My Mother Has Tubes In Ears And Was Experiencing Hearing

My Mother has tubes in ears and was experiencing hearing loss. PCP told her to use ear wax softner. She is now in agonizing pain. Does this make since? (You should know doctor has made unwise decisions lately and she refuses to change) Any help would be appreciated
