My Adult Doxer Is Inhaling Thru His Mouth, And Exhaling

My adult doxer is inhaling thru his mouth, and exhaling thru his nose. He has lost his life time partner,and just got out of the kennel by himself, and looking for his partner. Is this a normal response after loosing a partner, we now that he is depressed. Hat should we do for him.
