My Ankle Was Broken Approx 25 Yrs Ago It Healed

My ankle was broken approx 25 yrs ago it healed up fine but now it is larger than the other one. It is not painful . It is soft and spongelike I was told that it is possibly protective flesh protecting the bone. Should I see a podiatrist or orthopedic doctor about this.
