My blood pressure was abnormally high today when I went for my pre-op physical. I'm trying to figure out possible reasons why. It was 161/101 at 11:30 am and at noon, 158/92. (This evening at 8:30 pm it was 138/75.) My doctor wants me to take my blood pressure regularly over the next few days and fax them the results. I'm a 62 yr old female and I'm scheduled for a spinal fusion on June 25th. I've been taking Alleve regularly. Usually two Naproxen Sodium tablets each 220 mg. (Sometimes I just take one, but lately I've had a lot of back and leg pain.) My blood pressure used to be low when I was younger, now it is usually just average. Besides the Alleve, I did take a Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride ER tablet, 120 mg yesterday evening, but I thought it would have been out of my system before I saw the doctor today. (Previously, Sudafed has given me a fast heartbeat.) I did have an episode a few weeks ago on a Saturday morning when I was teaching English to adult immigrants. I was sweating profusely and kind of shaky. Later, I checked my blood pressure and it was 164/99. The next day, after participating in a 5K, it was 128/82. I also have been previously diagnosed with Hypoglycemia and today when my blood pressure was very high, I had not eaten since midnight, because I thought I needed to fast for the blood work. The first blood pressure reading at 11:30 am was higher and then I drank 12 oz of water. The second reading was a little lower. Do you think any of the reasons that I've mentioned might be a cause of the high blood pressure? Marianne email: YYYY@YYYY Thank you!
