My Blood Sugar Ranges From 120 - 250. I Am

My blood sugar ranges from 120 - 250. I am on various diabetic medicines as well as Lantus My doctor raised the Lantus to 20 units in the am and 20 units before dinner. My sugar readings have jumped really high since the change. I was on 18 units twice a day before. Why would my numbers go up instead of down? I've been battling diabetes for years now and my entire family has diabetes.
