My Boyfriend, 54, Has Had These Issues Lately. He Will

My boyfriend, 54, has had these issues lately. He will start coughing until he passes out. Then it looks like he is having convolutions. or seizures. He doesn't remember anything during this issue. I have slapped him across his face telling him to breath and he remembers nothing. This started about 3 years ago and it was once every 4-6 months. Now its at least 4-5 a week. he wont go to the doctor. I think he is scared of what the problem is. Can you maybe give me an idea.
