My Boyfriend Has Severe Problems With Pain And Hiccups Resulting

My boyfriend has severe problems with pain and hiccups resulting from his spinal canal resting on his phrenic nerve. Is there anything that can be done for this? He's been mostly bed ridden and doped up on pain meds for long periods of time for years.
