My Child Has Been To The Doctor And Has Been

My child has been to the doctor and has been prescribed cough medicine, but yet still she has this cough that goes away and returns. The cough is very dry and once she coughs once it turns into four to six times then she stops. What else can be done? Over the counter cough meds aren't working either. What to do Next?
