My Child Is 5 Years Old. He Has Fever From

My child is 5 years old. He has fever from past 4 days between 37.5 and 38.5c. Took him to doctor who advised its viral and asked to continue pat era ok syrup. He also has severe cough especially during night due to which he gets up during sleep and vomits. My doctor suggested asthalin syrup. Is this syrup ok to give a I read it's only for asthmatic conditions
