My Dad Is Admitted To The Hospital With Water Retention

My dad is admitted to the hospital with water retention in his abdomen they did an ultrasound and ct and decided to drain the fluid 3 litres at a time they could only get 2 litres and now have removed drain what now? He has hep c and his belly has about 12 litres to drain what is his overall condition how serious what can be expected they suspect the water has infection
