My Daughter Had To Get Several Stitches When She Cut

My daughter had to get several stitches when she cut her fingers. The doctors gave her some anesthetic to drink as she was quite young at the time. After waiting to give it time to set in, they started to stitch her up. She screamed because it hurt so much. About 1 1/2 hours after she received the anesthetic, it began to work. Also, she had a tooth pulled and the local anesthetic hadn't set in either. The doctors in both cases had never seen that reaction before. Is there a medical condition that causes that? I would really like to know what to do or expect in case she ever needs surgery?
