My Daughter Has A Son That Was Diagnosed With ASD.

My daughter has a son that was diagnosed with ASD. She believes this means he is not autistic. That he only has ASD. I was reading this and my understanding is the ASD is autism but has different forms or levels of autism. Could you explain this for both of us? My grandson is 5. Thank you!
