My Daughter Has Complained Of Pain On Her Hands The

My daughter has complained of pain on her hands the last two evenings. When I examine her hands they appear swollen and red. We have run her hands under cold water to soothe them and then put Vaseline on top. That's seems to help and it goes away but come back. Any ideas in what this could be?
