My Daughter Has Had Her Ear Pierced For Over 4

My daughter has had her ear pierced for over 4 years, I just went to clean her ears and there is a white hard crusty patch on her ear. It won't wipe off and when I tried it bled a little bit. I feel like her earring may have been to tight. What could it be?
