My Daughter Went To The Urgent Care Tonight With A

My daughter went to the Urgent Care tonight with a bad case of hives. She had taken benedryl without much effect during the day and we were particularly concerned because her tongue/mouth area had hives, although she was having no difficulty breathing. She was given 40 mg. prednisone at the clinic and then advised to take 40mg. daily for the next 5 days. I am very leery of this medicine and this dosage seems high. If the hives are improved in the morning would it be okay to just take 20 mg. prednisone for the next day or two and if her system seems improved taper down to 10 mg. for a day or two...or just stop completely after a few days of this medicine?
