My Doctor Is Having Me Take Azithromycin 500 Mg 3

My doctor is having me take azithromycin 500 mg 3 time a week. I have COPD I have no infection,
I believe he is having me take it has a precaution. I am wondering if it can cause hearing loss, I have recently experienced hearing loss and now wearing hearing aids. If I continue taking this prescription if the hearing loss will get worse?
