My Dog Has Been Recovering From A Long Awaited Diagnosis

My dog has been recovering from a long awaited diagnosis of stomach and lung cancer. We're not sure if it is the correct diagnosis as they miss diagnosed him before.But anyway, he has started showing signs of improvement, but tonight I am concerned about his gums. They are much darker and more sticky than before. What does this indicate.?
