My Ears, Especially The Ear Canal, Have Been Itching For

My ears, especially the ear canal, have been itching for at least two years. My general practitioner seems to dismiss it and has said numerous times that he does not see any signs of infection. During this time, I have had two ear infections, but the infections themselves have healed. They are almost always very dry inside, with a thin scaley discharge. I have tried several home remedies, but the problem continues and seems to be worst at night. I am a diabetic; could that be a cause? What is it an how do I resolve the itching, which can be intense.
