My Endocrinologist Has Taken Me Off All Oral Meds (actos

My endocrinologist has taken me off all oral meds (actos and glucovance) which kept my A1C levels below 6 for 10 years because kidney function is now very poor. I was placed on lantus 4 weeks ago, starting with 10 units and then upped to 18 units the next week and now he has increased my units to 20(now in my 4th week of lantus). My sugar levels are rangng from 242 in morning before breakfast. The rest of the day my levels increase anywhere from 50 points to 100 points at bedtime; therefore my levels are never normal. My question is - what damage is being done to my body with 4 weeks of high levels. Should I tell my doctor I think he needs to do something else? Important info is that my diet does not contain many carbs.
