My Fasting Blood Sugar Is 280 Mg And My Doctor

My fasting blood sugar is 280 mg and my doctor has prescribed 500 mg metformin to be taken once a day. I am on this treatment from last one month but do not see any significant changes in numbers. How long does it take to have good results. Also, what is the best time to take this medicine with breakfast or dinner? I will appreciate if you can respond to my query. Thank you
