My Friend Has 2 Screws In Her Wrist Fracture That

My friend has 2 screws in her wrist fracture that are to be removed on Tuesday. He said he would use novacaine for the removal.....?
Her surgeon gave her hydrocodone for her pain post op.
She is reluctant to take it but is not sleeping due to pain
When the does the drug reach peak efficiency? In other words when should she take the Rx before the procedure and after?
Should she have a Rx for Valium to potentiate the Hydro before the procedure?
Her surgeon thinks a local an anesthetic is sufficient
I have my doubts
