My Friend Has Severe Coughing Spells, Almost A Gag Like

My friend has severe coughing spells, almost a gag like choking for 3 weeks now.
Her eyes are red & puffy & it sounds very low in her chest.
The doctor ruled out pneumonia. She's been to the doctor 3 times - she doesn't know...
