My Friend Noticed Some Bleeding, But She Is Not On

My friend noticed some bleeding, but she is not on her period. She has been experiencing some pain which she now says has moved to her side's, the bleeding and the pain seems to stop, and start again, a blood test was done and confirmed she is not pregnant. What could it be?
