What Causes Worsening Swelling In Her Stomach And Legs Despite Antibiotics When Hospitalized For PID?

My girlfriend is currently in the hospital for a PID. She is experiencing swelling in the stomach and legs, almost as if she is retaining lost of fluid in her stomach and legs. She was put on antibiotics and the swelling is continuing to grow. What else could be the cause of this?
