My Husband Contracted Malaria And Was Treated In The 1960s

My husband contracted malaria and was treated in the 1960s when in Cuba while serving with the armed forces. Could his heart , blood, or aches and pains that he attributed to arthritis be an after effect of malaria?
He's been diagnosed with arthritis, high blood pressure and Afib. Other than that he is active and attends the gym for a regular routine daily.
