My Husband Developed A Jelly Like Substance On Left About

My husband developed a jelly like substance on left about 10 days ago. It is now in his right eye as well. Dr. said to hot pack 4x's a day x's 1/2 hr. That helps. But his eyes are red and when he lays down this substance bubbles up again. He also has been getting terrible headaches. Seeing a PT per md orders for this. Has bulging temperal arteries also. Have tried to get appointment with opthomologist, but can't see him for more than a month. Should I take him to ER?
