My Husband Got Diagnosed With Emphysema Today. His Mother Died

My husband got diagnosed with emphysema today. His mother died of COPD at 75, he is 65 now. Should he be tested for Alpha-1 def.? He is a light pot smoker and if he continues that habit, what could be his life expectancy?
