My Husband Got His Physical Today And The Doc Said

My husband got his physical today and the doc said he has an abdominal aortic aneurysm. The doc didn't like the looks of his EKG and is referring him to a cardiologist and because his feet are always cold (the main artery at the top of his left leg is pretty clogged too) and a vein specialist.

If he needs surgery do they always have to open up the bysmody to fix the aneurysm? How dangerous is this?
