My Husband Had MRSA And Sepsis 6 Weeks After A

My husband had MRSA and sepsis 6 weeks after a partial knee replacement surgery. We have been told that we will not know if the MRSA is gone until he finishes a course of oral antibiotics in 6 months to a yuear. He was receiving IV vancomycin for 56 days before he was discharged from the rehab center. Why can it not be detected while receiving oral meds?
