My Husband Had A Double By-pass 14 Months Ago, We

My husband had a double by-pass 14 months ago, we do know he has some broken wires that showed on xrays, but you can put your hand on the upper left side of his chest and feel movement, he says its painful and it feels like its moving from the outside to the middle of his chest. He says the wires hurts about an inch and a half to 2 inches from the center of his chest on the left side. If he over exerts himself it is extremely painful. We have gone back to the surgeon and he says this is normal. Is there anything we can do to alleviate the pain and how long does it usually take for everything to heal.
Thank you so much for your help.
