My Husband Had A Staph Infection After Having His Pacemaker

My husband had a staph infection after having his pacemaker replaced after a few weeks 8 yrs ago. They did 3 wks of in hospital IV. He went yesterday to get it replaced again & it had fluid under it & was a little puss pocket the dr said on one side. He cleaned & gave antibiotics & cultured it. Could this have been dormant from 8 yrs ago or could it be something else.
