My Husband Had Surgery 7 Days Ago, They Removed His

My husband had surgery 7 days ago, they removed his tonsils and adnoids then carterized his throat and uvula, he is in so much pain cant hardly swallow, he says it feels like someone is cutting throught it with a knife. If anything food/drink touches his uvula it feels like needles stabbing it. Is this normal and what can he do to releave this pain
