My Husband Has A Expiratory Wheeze , Almost Seems Like

My husband has a expiratory wheeze , almost seems like he is purposely exhaling for long periods of time, he says that's how he breathes but I have never heard anyone exhale for that long of a time. I feel this is either a psych or diabetic problem.
