My Husband Has Been Complaining Of His Teeth Hurting For

My husband has been complaining of his teeth hurting for a few months now. Today it seems to have bothered him pretty bad. He put an ice pack on the side of his face that was hurting. When he took the ice pack off he noticed a little bit of swelling. Is this an emergency? We're laying down do I need to wake him up to go to the hospital?
