My Husband Has Been Diagnosed With Enlarged Spleen, And Also

My husband has been diagnosed with enlarged spleen, and also emphysema. He does not drink alcohol and has stopped smoking going into 7 months. He has constant pain in his side where the spleen is. What can he do to ease pain and live a fairly comfortable life. He eats alot of sweets and food containing sugar. Never eats a proper meal.
